Youth Chorus Meets every Thursday 4:30- 5:30 in the Houston County Middle School Band Room.
Youth Chorus Goals:
· Develop singing voices and use of proper vocal technique
· Become skillful in singing melody and harmony parts
· Become aware of musical signs, symbols and characteristics
· Learn to feel beats, their grouping, and musical organization
· Synchronize body movements to a variety of rhythms
· Increase or awareness of different musical styles and cultures
· Experiment with various percussive instruments
Virginia Hataway
Virginia Hataway- Director was the youngest of the nine children raised by a single mom on a farm in DeRidder, LA. She attended McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA, and then graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, LA. Virginia has taught almost 30 years in public and private schools; she is currently employed by the Montgomery County School System as a music specialist. She has directed both youth and adult choruses in schools, churches and Air Force chapels. Virginia and husband Clay, a retired Lt. Col. in the Air Force, have two children and five grandchildren. They live near Erin and attend Erin Baptist Church.
Ann Hagler
Ann Hagler, Assistant Director- worked for the Houston County School System as an elementary music teacher for three years, a classroom teacher for twenty-six years, and a consulting teacher for seven years. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Austin Peay University and a Masters degree from Trevecca Nazarene University. Ann has been a lifelong resident of Houston County. She is a member of Erin United Methodist Church where she has directed the choir for many years. Ann serves on the Board of Directors of the Houston County Arts Council. Ann has one son and three grandchildren.
Elizabeth Martin
Elizabeth Martin, Assistant Director -opened her first piano studio in college, before receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from Samford University in Birmingham, AL. She presently maintains a full piano teaching schedule in Erin and serves on the Houston County Arts Council Board of Directors. Elizabeth serves Erin Baptist Church as pianist and handbell choir director. She was a home educator for twenty years. She and husband Dan are parents of four adult children.
Fred Doty
Fred Doty, HCAC Liaison & HCYC Choreographer -attended Austin Peay University where he studied speech and theatre. He has appeared in numerous HCCT productions since 2004, at The Renaissance Center in Dickson, numerous APSU college performances as well as theatres in Kentucky, Texas, Nebraska, Minnesota and New York. He has received the Jimmy Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical from The Renaissance Center as well as the 2007 Nancy Award Winner from the HCCT. Fred has also been the designer for many of the HCCT sets. Fred serves on the Houston County Arts Council Board of Directors.
