Fall Classes

The 2010 Fall Class schedule will be announced soon.
If you have a class you would like to see offered, please let us know by emailing us at hcartscouncil@peoplestel.net
As students are preparing to return to the classroom, it's time to start thinking about HCAC classes for the Fall semester.
We have offered a wide variety of classes for students and adults in the past, including
*Musical Theatre Song & Dance,
*Skits 4 Kids,
*Tap,
*Ballet,
*Jazz,
*Zumba,
*Acting,
*plus private voice and piano lessons.
We would like to get your suggestions and requests for class offerings for the Fall 2010 semester. Please send your information by email by July 31st so we can offer classes that best suit your needs/interests. Please do not miss this opportunity to take classes/lessons from professional instructors for a reasonable price right here in your home town!!! Please specify child (including age) or adult when requesting classes.
If you are a returning voice &/or piano student, please reply if you wish to continue lessons this semester and indicate the lesson length that you prefer.

Gershwin in Blue
|

Shawn Knight
The Houston County Arts Council will present Shawn Knight in a special performance of "Gershwin in Blue" at the Erin United Methodist Church, Sunday, August 8, at 3:00 PM. "Gershwin in Blue" is Shawn's original portrayal of the life, times, and music of George Gershwin, the famed American composer of Rhapsody in Blue and Porgy and Bess. Reception following in the Fellowship Hall.
Shawn, a 1995 graduate of Houston County High School, received a B.A. in English and Theatre Arts from Belmont University, a M.A. in English form Auburn University, and a M.F.A. in Theatre from the University of Louisville. He is currently a professional Equity actor dividing his theatre season between Tennessee and Kentucky.
This free performance is an "invitation-only" event for Houston County Arts Council sponsors.

The deadline for reservations for this event is August 1.
Blarney Stone/Shamrock level sponsors may reserve two seats and Leprechaun/Emerald Level sponsors may reserve four seats.

2010 Nancy Award Winner
|
Congratulations to Nethla Shires recipient of the 2010 Nancy Award. Nethla's continued dedication to bring Arts of all mediums to the Houston County area earned her the honor. Hollywood has an Oscar, but Houston County has Nancy. In 2006 the Houston County Community Theatre presented the first annual Nancy Award to Nancy Nave for her love of and dedication to the advancement of quality theatre, and the arts in Houston County, since then it has been awarded during the run of the final show of the season.

Friends of the Library Contribution
|

The Houston County Community Theatre donated a portion of the ticket sales from the July 2nd My Fair Lady production to the Friends of the Library (FOL). The FOL are responsible for aspects at the library like the Summer Reading program that just completed, the weekly reading program for the preschool children during the year, adult programming as well as book and equipment purchases and many other task that help aide the operation of the library. If you are interested in finding out more about this program or contributing to it, contact the library at 931-289-3858.
